It's official. Television as we know it is dead. After years of jerking us audiences around by pulling our favourite shows after 3 episodes or dumping the best programmes in the middle of the night Free-to-Air tv networks are feeling the pinch. The TV industry simply isnt adapting fast enough to account for the file sharing pirates, dramatic prairie dogs, and fat kids preparing for their Jedi entrance exams. But when Channels 7, 9 and 10 die, what WILL the future of television be?
Marc Fennell and Comedian Dan Ilic (Ch 10's Ronnie Johns Half Hour, Hungry Beast) decided to find out and then they turned their discoveries into a 6-night, live, cross-platform extravaganza at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Imagine 'Top Gear' only about TV instead of Cars. Massage My Medium was packed with tv mash-ups, banter, a staged recreation of The West Wing, a horse sugically attached to a car and they even BitTorrented a human... yes a human in front of an audience*. Massage My Medium came with guest stars ranging from Wil Anderson, Glen Robbins to Ian 'Dicko' Dickinson. And it was all done in order to demonstrate how TV networks may die, but TV programmes can thrive online. And when it was all over Massage even made a mention in Defamer. Lets face it, there is no higher honour. *May be total bullshit |
